Meet Larry and Leanna
Creating our *magical* family has been, hands down, the most amazing adventure we have ever been on. With a life-long desire to adopt, we realized our dream in 2022 when our son Zander came swiftly into our lives - truly a fateful match made among the stars! The two of us have always been vibrant, playful, goofy, and loving - and so Zander's bright and joyful spirit fit perfectly into our lives. Together as a family we love to sing and make music, garden and pick dandelions, snuggle with our two pups Khody & Kush, climb mountains and dip our toes into creeks, read books and dream up stories, dance to loud music, and go on adventures big and small.
We also believe in spreading kindness, joy, creativity, and healing. Leanna teaches yoga and meditation at a local prison, and helps to facilitate healing ceremonies for the community. Larry works with special needs patients and children, and has a gift for establishing trust and a feeling of safety. We are animal lovers and have a deep connection to nature. Above all, we have found that the most wonderful part of life has been forming lasting relationships with the amazing people around us.
We are incredibly grateful to have been welcomed into the Alaska Native community through our friends, family, and colleagues that want to help keep Zander connected to his Yup'ik, Cup'ik and Iñupiaq heritage. Leanna works closely with Tribes on climate change issues, while Larry works part-time in healthcare and education at two Alaska Native organizations. We have been fortunate to participate in numerous gatherings and cultural activities, including moose hide tanning camp, potlatches, ceremonies, and most recently, Larry participated in a 150-mile traditional canoe journey up the Southeast AK coast.
We are excited to grow our family once again through a second adoption, in the hopes to see our kiddos grow up together as close siblings, so they can lean on one another through thick and thin over the years. Our concept of family has always been one that goes beyond blood relations, and we are grateful to have an amazing, big family that includes our own parents and siblings and their children, aunties and uncles and cousins, our best friends and their families, and Zander's birth family.
